Overton is a small town bordering Logandale, located in Moapa Valley, 10 miles (16.3 km) from the eastern entrance to Valley of Fire. It's also the first major town you'll come across if you choose to follow the 55-mile scenic Northshore Road from Henderson or Boulder City along the western shore of Lake Mead. The northern end of Lake Mead touches the city limits. The town was founded by the Mormons in 1883. At that time, Overton had the only store in the lower Moapa Valley. The town was therefore a magnet for many people from the valley and surrounding villages.
