PARCO ARCHEOLOGICO DI SIBARI

Three cities are superimposed on this site: Sybaris, the Greek colony established in 720 BC and destroyed by its rival Crotone in 510; Thurioi, founded in 444 BC; Copia, the Roman colony. The most evocative remains date back to this last period (theatre, baths, dwellings...). Nearby, the very interesting Museo archeologico nazionale della Sibaritide displays Greek and Roman material unearthed during excavations on the site and in the surrounding area.
