Copertino's mother church, the basilica was founded in 1088 by the Norman storyteller Goffredo di Conversano and has undergone many changes over the centuries, as can be seen on its main façade. At 35 meters, the square-based Campanile is awarded to the architect Giovanni Maria Tarantino.
