A square that bears witness to the history of the city of Popayan, with statues, works of the French sculptor and a cathedral
The square, built in 1537, bears witness to the town's history. Tall, beautiful trees provide shade and entertainment all day long. At its center stands the statue of the scientist and nationalist hero Francisco José de Caldas, the work of French sculptor Raoul Verlet (1857-1923). On the south side, the cathedral and Torre del Reloj, one of Popayán's landmarks, whose bell tower was built between 1675 and 1682. During the War of Independence, the clock's counterweights were melted down on the orders of General Nariño to make cannonballs!

l'endroit où se poser
Comme toute les places centrales en Colombie, c'est l'endroit où la population aime se retrouver en fin de journée ou le weekend, Il y a en général de l'animation, en ce lieu pas mal d'arbres donc de l'ombre et de nombreux bancs pour se reposer. C'est joliment aménagé avec de beaux parterres fleuris et c'est propre. Il y a aussi une présence policière pour vous rassurer. En son pourtour vous avez la cathédrale et de nombreux bâtiments de style colonial. pas beaucoup de circulation de véhicules filtrée en cet endroit, donc tranquillité assurée!

Passage incontournable de Popayan, on se sent bien dans ce petit parc regorgeant d'oiseaux de toutes les couleurs.

La cathédrale est magnifique et l'éclairage de nuit est très beau aussi.
La tour de l'horloge est imposante.
