Nuestra Señora de la Asunción with a whitewashed facade, with tall columns topped by statues
On the south side of Parque Caldas, stands the imposing Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Cathedral-Basilica. A neoclassical edifice built between 1856 and 1906 on the site of four older churches successively destroyed by earthquakes. It's not the most beautiful church in Popayán, but its high altar is well worth a look: the interior is richly decorated. It has a beautiful whitewashed façade with tall columns topped by statues.

Un incontournable de Popayán
Vue de l'extérieur, l'édifice est déjà très beau (L'éclairage de nuit est immanquable). L'intérieur est impressionnant : autel, vitraux...

Bon je suis d'accord cet édifice mérite le titre de cathédrale, il faut savoir que chaque ville en Colombie a sa "catédral", en général c'est l'église la plus grande de la ville, mais là elle trône près du parc central de Popayan et est majestueuse. Belle façade de style colonial et intérieur richement décoré et orné, nombreuses chapelles en son choeur., bel autel, tout est là pour son titre

Une des églises principales de Popayan. Elle n'a rien de vraiment extraordinaire mais le petit parc devant est agréable.
