It is the only Catholic saint commemorated in the country! This Swedish-speaking festival will delight young and old alike in Turku and Helsinki.

A Swedish-speaking festival, Santa Lucia is first and foremost the great festival of light, in the heart of the darkest month of the year. One of the many candidates is chosen to represent Saint Lucia in a procession from Helsinki Cathedral. With candles in her hand and a crown of candles on her head, she rides on horseback to bring light into the city. She is the only Catholic saint commemorated in the country. A nice party to discover between two visits to the Christmas market!

Turku: Saint Lucia is also celebrated there.
