MONASTERY ISLAND (ОСТРІВ МОНАСТИРСЬКИЙ)

The island derives its name from the monastery that Byzantine monks founded in the th century. Destroyed by the Tatars in 1240, there are now only fairly spectacular ruins, immersed in the green landscape of Shevchenko park. On the southern part of the island there are white beaches, very busy during the summer. Arriving on the island, after crossing the bridge, we see a huge statue of Taras Shevchenko.
