The Festivali i Këngës is the country's oldest festival. This major popular song contest has been organized by RTSH, the national public television station, since 1962. It takes place over four days at Tirana's Palace of Congresses, and the Saturday evening final is watched by millions of Albanian speakers from all over the world. Since 2004, the winner has represented Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest. Otherwise, the whole country comes alive for Christmas, with markets in town squares, illuminations, concerts and... a shopping frenzy.
