ALTIPORT DE MÉRIBEL
Located at 1 691 metres above sea level in the municipality of Les Allues, 1.5 km north-northeast of the resort of Méribel, the Robert Merloz Altiport is for restricted use only. It therefore allows the practice of leisure and tourism activities: light aviation and helicopters. It is not controlled. Méribel airport has a paved runway facing south-north (15/33), 406 m long and 15 m wide. The average slope of the central part is 11%. Note that, as it has a sloping runway, requiring aircraft to land in the direction of climb and take off in the direction of descent, it is impossible to perform a " remise des gaz ", so this is a dangerous terrain requiring a special qualification. For the record, it was here that the first landing in a winter sports resort in France took place, on 30 January 1962. Thus, within a day, this altiport was stealing the show from Courchevel, which made its first landing the next day.
