EL PORTAL VISITOR CENTER

El Portal has been the main visitor center for El Yunque National Forest since 1996. In 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused significant structural damage, necessitating a major reconstruction of the building. Its reopening in January 2022 was highly anticipated. The center offers visitor information, exhibits, a store, a café and a theater. It will inform you directly about the accessibility of the open trails. We recommend avoiding weekends if you don't want to meet too many people.
