PLAZA DEL MERCADO

It is one of the most lively traditional markets in San Juan. It is a great place for bartering for the inhabitants of the city. It is the ideal place to get into the heart of the Puerto Ricans' daily life. The stalls sell fruits, herbs, fish, religious objects... The square is a few steps from the Río Piedras train station and often hosts concerts on weekends. Stores and cheap restaurants line the Paseo de Diego; the area closed to car traffic looks like a large open-air shopping mall.
