MONUMENTO A JUAN ANTONIO LAVALLEJA

The equestrian statue of Lavalleja, mounted on his horse, was the first of its kind to be erected in the country in commemoration of the battle of Sarandí. The work was created by the sculptor J.M. Ferrari and was inaugurated on October 12, 1902. The granite base of the statue is decorated with bronze bas-reliefs that recall the landing of the Treinta y Tres Orientales and the provisional government of Lavalleja, established in Florida in 1825.
