According to the writings of Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga in his 1815 travelogue, this church located in Plaza Artigas was the first place of worship dedicated to the "true" god in the Banda Oriental. Built in 1718, it has thick brick walls and a tiled roof. Inside, the altar is adorned with an image of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, as well as an articulated wooden sculpture of Christ, who is taken down from his cross every Good Friday.
