The Pyramid of Solís was built in memory of the great navigators who discovered the main waterways of the region while searching for a route to the Indies. The monument, which is also called Monumento a los Descubridores (Monument to the Discoverers), was named after the Spanish explorer Juan Díaz de Solís, in honor of his expedition to the Nueva Palmira region in 1516 (you know the rest...). It was erected in 1888 by the residents of Nueva Palmira and Agraciada, and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
