PLAZA ARTIGAS

In middle trees called Ibirapitaes, or "Arbres trees", one can see a plaque commemorating the deed of founding of the town of Carmelo on February 16, 1816. The statue of Artigas, the work of the sculptors Félix and Vicente Morelli, was inaugurated during the celebration of the centenary. Just behind is the Local Junta building, headquarters of the commune administration.
