EL FARO DE PUNTA DEL ESTE

Built by Tomás Libarena and put into service on November 17, 1860, this lighthouse is 45 m high. It was built with a mixture of volcanic earth from Rome, which is stronger than concrete. The glass prisms that compose its lighting system were brought from France. Inside, a spiral staircase of 150 steps leads to the top of the lighthouse. The view is worth the effort. In front of it is built the parish church of Our Lady of Candelaria, protective mother of the sailors.
