CASA DE FRANCISCO GÓMEZ
This magnificent neo-Gothic palace (historicist eclecticism, according to experts) housing the headquarters of the Montevideo City Council, reopened in 2014 after two years of renovation. Designed by architect Ignacio Pedralbes, it was completed in 1874, although the Gomez family never moved in. Inside is a modern residence of three floors, with a marble staircase and an elevator. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard, lit by a skylight. In 1975, the house was declared a Monumento Histórico Nacional.
