The small town of Outjo is above all a place of passage for travellers heading for Etosha or Damaraland who will be able to get supplies or drink a good coffee here in a calm and rural setting. Founded in 1880 by the merchant Tom Lambert, Outjo, which means "little hill" in the Herero language, nowadays lives mainly from cattle breeding and provides an important part of the domestic beef market (the rest of its production is exported, in particular to the European Community which imports about 10 t of beef per year from Namibia, i.e. if Namibian meat is coveted)
