FONDATION BEYELER

The Beyeler Foundation is a magnificent building designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, who also designed the Pompidou Centre in Paris. In a green setting, in the middle of wheat fields and water lily ponds, this structure of Patagonian volcanic stone and ground-level glass blends into the landscape, very bright thanks to a glass roof, surrounded by a winter garden and the Rococo style Berower villa where the museum restaurant is located. From the terrace, you can admire sculptures in the gardens of Alexander Calder and Ellsworth Kelly.
It all began in 1952, when the Beyelers transformed their antique book and antiques shop in Basel into a "Beyeler Gallery", oriented towards German expressionist painters, then in 1982 into the Beyeler Foundation, and finally, in 1997, opened the museum, one of the most famous in the world.
The permanent collection is quite small, 300 paintings and sculptures (we can still see some Arp, Braque, Picasso, Bacon, Bourgeois...).

will be its most prestigious exhibition to date, the Beyeler Foundation is dedicated to the young Pablo Picasso and his paintings and sculptures from the so-called blue and pink periods of 1901 to 1906.

Rudolf Stingel" from 26 May to 6 October 2019. An exhibition highlights the work of this contemporary artist.

"Resonating Spaces" from October 6, 2019 to January 2020. Presentation by artists Leonor Antunes, Silvia Bächli, Toba Khedoori, Susan Philipsz and Rachel Whiteread, who all addressed the theme of space.
