Many memorials and statues are scattered across the city. The war memorial, located right across the university, is so huge that it can only be seen in the centre of the city. A statue of Hazi Aslanov, a second world war hero, on a tank shaped pedestal, opposite the city's supermarket. At the same supermarket, you can see the statue of a woman holding a cup of tea in one hand and one sword in the other. It symbolizes the double face of the inhabitants of the region: hospitality to friends and firmness towards enemies.
