NIZAMI MAUSOLEUM
Mausolée en forme d'un obélisque de marbre de 20 m de haut, bénéficiant d'une architecture qui rend hommage à Nizami et à son œuvre
The mausoleum occupies the site of the old town of Gyanja, which was almost entirely destroyed by the earthquake of 1139. It was built in 1991 on the occasion of the 850 th anniversary of this th century Azeri poet from Gyanja. The entire architecture of the mausoleum pays tribute to Nizami and his work. The five steps that give access to the main hall represent the five poems of the writer. The general form of the building, a 20 m high marble obelisk, built in modern materials, is largely inspired by the local architecture of the th century. In the park is a group of statues, each of which symbolizes the theme of a poem by Nizami. The site is very important to the people of the country. Young couples in the region come to bless them before their marriage.
