The coolness of the courtyard, the warmth of the welcome, breakfast with a unique recipe of blackberry jam, nicely decorated rooms without excess or frills and an impeccable location near the Gour Emir, what more could you ask for to discover the pearl of the Orient? In high season, reservation is essential. Possibility to have dinner in the evening if you give advance notice, for 11 US$.

The hotel has a main building and, since the summer of 2016, a new wing with around 30 rooms of superior standing (4 stars). A large garden planted with trees at the back of the building allows you to enjoy quiet moments on returning from a day of discovery. The hotel's restaurant is impressive with its large central dome and stuccoed niches, supported by 6 columns. Large breakfast buffet and varied menu in the evening. An excellent value for money and a good option for those looking for comfort.

The Bibikhanum enjoys an unrivalled location at the foot of the mosque of the same name and on the pedestrian street Islom Karimov. Built on the plans of a traditional house, one enters through a pretty courtyard shaded by a vine arbour. The rooms are arranged around a flowered courtyard. Extremely well designed and functional, they are tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. From the vast terrace, the view that you will have at breakfast on the crenellated dome of the Timurid mosque alone justifies a stay.

Space, a cosy and romantic atmosphere, white painted brick walls adorned with paintings by tasteful artists, far from the usual kitsch of Uzbek hotels, king size beds, a sitting area... The bathrooms are impeccable in terms of equipment. Air conditioning, television, refrigerator, a desk and wi-fi access in the rooms complete the picture. In the restaurant you can eat for 15 to 20 US$ in front of the fireplace while enjoying the piano; in the courtyard you can enjoy the coolness of the iwan, contemplating in front of the Japanese garden.

In a century old merchant house, the Jahongir hotel offers beautiful, simple and comfortable rooms, nicely decorated with Uzbek handicraft. What to spend an excellent stay. Family welcome, proximity of the Registan square and the old city and a well thought out complex for travelers: wi-fi access, pleasant common areas and a large cool courtyard under the arbour and the vine... Don't hesitate to ask for advice during your stay in Samarkand: the French-speaking manager will be happy to give you his good addresses.

The location is impeccable, in the shadow of the Gur Emir. The B&B is located in a house in the old town, with its inner courtyard, vineyard and upstairs rooms. In this traditional house, the rooms are simple but clean. During the day, or for breakfast, you can relax in the cool under the old awning. A stone's throw away, Said has fitted out 10 other rooms in a modern annex. In the basement you will find beautiful examples of Rishtan ceramics as well as a beautiful collection of old Soviet radio sets and gramophones.

The establishment offers good value for money, comfort and space. The rooms, although not decorated, are indeed large and quietly located in a small street set back from the Boulevard de l'Université. Large windows ensure good luminosity in the rooms, arranged on the ground floor or upstairs around a large courtyard where copious breakfasts are served on sunny days. The family suite, with its bathtub and fireplace, is impeccable for those travelling with children.

An establishment ideally located a few meters from the Gour Emir and which offers quality rooms and services. Some rooms overlook the mausoleum while the roof terrace offers a magnificent view of the Gour Emir and its surroundings. You can have a drink there in the evening, to enjoy the quietness of the area. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The English-speaking staff is particularly pleasant. Prices may be a little high in high season, but try to negotiate.

The hotel took advantage of the city's renovation to get a new look, but that was already a few years ago. The setting and atmosphere are rather neutral, still largely inspired by the great Soviet hotels, but the whole is clean and comfortable. Carpet, white paint, a little stucco: don't look for too much charm or character, the atmosphere here is rather functional. Some rooms are not very spacious so visit them before you commit and negotiate prices if it is not totally to your liking.

Excellent value for money for this brand new establishment! All the rooms of the hotel are equipped with television, air conditioning and refrigerator. The bathrooms have a bathtub. The decoration is very simple, there is space and comfort, and the service is pleasant. You can reach the city centre in a short taxi ride, or you can take one of the many martsrutkas that connect University Boulevard with Registan Street, all in less than 5 minutes.

It's a tiny establishment nestled at the end of a quiet back alley. An effort has been made to give cachet to the old house arranged around a small courtyard, with wooden balconies and handicrafts on the walls. The rooms are Spartan, without any particular character, but comfortable and cheap, and the staff is extremely friendly. Add to this an impeccable location, just behind the Registan and a stone's throw from the bazaar, excellent breakfasts and an Olympian calm, and you get great value for money.

Located not far from the central park and the main sites of the city, the Platan is a mini-hotel of excellent standing. The 12 rooms of the hotel are very spacious, with extremely comfortable king-size bedding. Its charming interior courtyard is surrounded by greenery and features a relaxation area. A significant advantage of the Hotel Platan is that it houses the eponymous restaurant, known as the best table in town with its refined cuisine. So you can go to breakfast with complete confidence! A perfect establishment for a relaxing stay!

Facing Grand Samarkand, Grand Samarkand Superior offers the same range of services and the same quality as its older brother in terms of room equipment and decoration. Built at a later date, it benefits from additional facilities compared to its older brother, such as a swimming pool, fitness room and sauna. The top-class reception and the highly recommendable restaurant make it an excellent establishment for a reasonable price.

Close to the Afrosiab hill, 18 European-style rooms, spacious and well furnished. Some are equipped with hydromassage showers. Indoor swimming pool, sauna and a beautiful garden at the back for strolling after a day's visit to Samarkand. A good value for money, but unfortunately a bit far away for walking tours and equipment often out of order. This is often the case in Uzbekistan, but here the staff is a little slow to put things in order. Too bad, because the establishment has what it takes to be an excellent address...

Like all the other establishments of the Asia chain, the main advantage of this hotel is that it is perfectly placed to visit all the points of interest in the old town. You'll be a stone's throw from the Registan and the Bibi Khanum mosque. The services are intended to be top-of-the-range, but are not of international standing either. Too bad, because for the rest there is not much to say: outdoor swimming pool, night bar, restaurant, sauna, exchange office... Everything you need for a 4-star is there. Friendly, English-speaking staff.

Hotel Zarina shines by its location, halfway between the Gur Emir and the Registan. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard with a small pool and a beautiful iwan where a few tables and traditional crafts are laid out for lounging in the shade. The standard rooms are nothing special and a little expensive, but those in the newer part of the building are comfortable and well appointed. A succinct breakfast, served in the basement unfortunately. Not the best address in Samarkand, but a good, quiet location.

Member of the Malika chain, always with the same standard: the rooms are comfortable, soberly decorated and equipped with beautiful bathrooms. The location is impeccable, just a few meters from the Gur Emir. Some of the rooms have a nice view of the mausoleum. But in high season you should ask for the rooms at the back, to avoid the incessant ballet of the tourist buses. The rooftop terrace offers a magical view of the Gour Emir, ideal in the evening or at warmer hours, under the pleasant shade of the iwan.

As in all hotels of the Malika chain, you will find here impeccable services for affordable rates. All rooms are equipped with television and air conditioning. The rooms are distributed around a large, carefully tended courtyard that imitates the traditional Uzbek style. The restaurant serves traditional or European dishes to order. The only black spot is its off-centre location, which is rather underserved. However, when it comes to atmosphere, service and comfort, the Malika Classic is still preferred.

This B&B is located in the historical heart of Samarkand, on the site of an old caravanserai. The terrace offers a beautiful view of the Gur Emir. Olim is an ardent defender of traditional skills and makes a point of using local materials and techniques in the construction and decoration of his hotel. The hotel offers rooms (from single to quadruple) that can accommodate the needs of both individual travelers and small groups. A good value for money.
