Uzbekistan's largest mosque was inaugurated in autumn 2014. Requested by President Islam Karimov, it was inaugurated with great fanfare. Covered in white marble, it follows the country's classical architectural codes. The central building is flanked by two 38-metre-high minarets. Its dome stands out for the blue of its mosaics. The gold-covered mirhab features writings from the Koran. It can accommodate 2,400 people. Pleasant green spaces have been laid out along the Ankhor canal.
