UKRAINIAN BYZANTINE CATHEDRAL

This baroque Catholic church (17th century) follows the very recognizable style of Jesuit architecture of the Counter-Reformation. Abandoned after the partition of Poland when the Austrians banned the order, it gradually fell into disrepair and was rehabilitated at the end of the 19th century. In 1991, Pope John Paul II donated the church to the Greek-Catholic community, which explains the presence of a superb 17th century iconostasis inside.
