CITY HALL

Rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in 1830 after its predecessor was destroyed in 1807 by Napoleon's troops, this building now houses the town hall, a cultural center and a modern art gallery. It is one of the few buildings to have survived the Second World War. Its architecture is remarkable, a city "castle" that resembles a medieval castle, with towers and gun battlements that are purely decorative and a reference to the city's military past. Today, it's a cherished landmark.
