Malbork, or Marienburg by its original name, is the former capital of the Teutonic Knights. It boasts one of the world's most impressive relics of medieval architecture: its majestic castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. It is the largest brick castle in Europe and one of the largest Gothic fortresses in the world. The Malbork complex stands proudly on the right bank of the River Nogat, and is not to be missed. Don't hesitate to take a stroll along the riverbank - the views are worth the detour! Not much remains of the town, which was destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt shortly afterwards.
