NOWY PORT LIGHTHOUSE
Located at the mouth of the harbor, this lighthouse is open to visitors and offers a beautiful view of Westerplatte, Gdańsk Bay and the Hel peninsula. It tells the time by means of a time ball visible from the open sea: the ball rises along a mast and drops abruptly at 12, 2, 4 and 6 o'clock. The lighthouse went down in history on September1, 1939, when a Nazi machine gun on the lighthouse opened fire on Polish army positions, triggering the Second World War. It can be reached by streetcar, bus and car from the center of Gdańsk.
