SHRINE TO OUR LADY OF SORROW
The Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Licheń is an important place of pilgrimage in Poland. It covers almost a hundred hectares and offers visitors a space for spiritual rebirth, physical and emotional rest. The sanctuary is also a place where God speaks through liturgies, retreats and the beauty of nature. It is steeped in history, with landmark events dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The sanctuary is the site of an apparition of Our Lady in 1850 in the forest of Grąblin. It has witnessed difficult moments in Polish history, such as the Nazi occupation and communism. The basilica, completed in 2004, houses the miraculous painting of Our Lady of Licheń, the Sorrowful Queen of Poland. The sanctuary also includes a church, a spring and a museum. It is a meeting place with Polish history and a place where many people have found the grace and strength to live in dignity.
