The church's origins date back to 1179, when the Knights Templar were invited to settle in a nearby monastery in 1243. The present red-brick Gothic church, erected in the 14th century, was probably built following the devastation of Gniezno by the Teutonic Knights in 1331. It is one of the few churches to have preserved frescoes on its walls. Representing the lives of Christ and Mary, they are well worth a visit.
