IGLESIA Y CONVENTO DE SAN FRANCISCO

Founded in 1560 by the République (whose name it then bore), the church will become Franciscan in 1575. The roof is not authentic, a wooden structure that replaced the original dome after the earthquake of 1774. The tower houses a cloche at Alcalá de Henares in Spain in 1460. One of the niches houses a cross that was allegedly exorcisée in 1603 by the Fray Esteban Franciscain father (tradition reports that a cloud shaped ghost arose from the Chiquito Río every Friday and covered the cross at the time on the central square at noon.). Finally, San Francisco Square, facing the Archaeology museum, is as peaceful as the Franciscan life. It is a good idea to walk and rest under the trees or on the edge of the fountain.
