This 782 km ² park west of Tela Bay owes its name to an ecologist (president of the Prolosante association) who fought all his life for the protection of the coastline against peasant cooperatives involved in the cultivation of African palm trees (palm oil), before being murdered in April 1995. It is also known as "Punta Sal": nothing to do with sal (salt in Spanish); " Sal "has just salir (" out "in Spanish).

The pirates valued small bays for the refuge they offered (notably Puerto Escondido); The tourists taste today the charm of their beautiful beaches (not the most beautiful of the Caribbean but still!).

There are two major sites: the peninsula and the lagoon (both are the subject of appropriate excursions). To access the peninsula, you must pay a fee (often included in the operators'benefits). The classic excursion includes an hour of lancha to reach a first beach (dolphins, if you are lucky); then a walk of half an hour at about an hour, very easy and perhaps a little slow, to another beach (see scream monkeys and white-headed monkeys, spiders, snakes and beautiful tropical vegetation); lancha takes over tourists, passes through the end of the peninsula (petrels, etc.) before attaching for a good hour for a "snorkeling" session (do not expect to be in mountains and wonders, little visibility especially if it has rained before, not many varieties and little colors… one is far from Roatán!); finally, we end up with a meal on a beautiful beach inhabited by an indigenous and Garifuna community (Playa Cocolito). It would be possible to camp it: an alternative to not neglect in a superb environment. Think of everything to bring (and win) with you.

La Laguna de los Micos enchanted all bird watchers: no fewer than 350 species were identified during the summer. Also in the program: monkeys, turtles, lizards, etc. Mangroves make up a unique landscape. The excursion also includes a visit to the authentic Garifuna village of Miami, one of the most beautiful natural sites on the northern coast of Honduras. Entirely built in manja, serves brava and palm leaves.
