The Abeur mosque is the only building from the original site of the town of Chinguetti still intact. It is a superb dry-stone building, restored on numerous occasions. Its distinctive minaret, which served as a landmark for worshippers returning from the pilgrimage to Mecca, can be seen in the distance. Founded in the 13th century, its minaret is said to be the second oldest still in use anywhere in the world! The four corners of its tower end in spikes on which ostrich eggs are impaled. What a marvel!

tout en pierres
Dominant la vieille ville, elle est particulièrement photogénique, parfaitement intégrée aux ocres bâtisses environnantes. Vous ne la manquerez pas !
