Don't be intimidated by the rough appearance of the surroundings and the exterior of the building: with its beautiful terrace, Auberge Sahara and its owner Fanta will give you a warm welcome. And with hot water! The city center is only 10 minutes away by foot, and it is possible to order meals. For this, please contact Fanta, she speaks fluent French and will make your stay a pleasant memory, in the greatest simplicity.

We ended up staying three nights in Auberge Sahara because we found it very comfortable, especially in comparison to the other places we had stayed at in Mauritania previously. We arrived very dirty from the iron ore train without a reservation and still felt welcome. The bathroom was always clean and there is a hot shower, beds and room were comfortable and clean, there was a place to wash clothes and working wifi. Even though we only know a few words in French and the host didn't speak much English, communication wasn't a problem. I would recommend a stay here for sure :)

Probably the only real hostel you’ll find in Mauritania. The owner, Fanta, is a great host. The place is tidily kept by her and she also makes delicious madeleines. Would definitely recommend if you’re stopping in Nouadhibou on your way North or South or East on the charcoal train.
