A national reserve since 1976, the PNBA was classified as a world heritage site in 1989. It is located on both sides of the 20th parallel, along the Mauritanian coast for nearly 180 km. Its surface area covers 12,000 km², equally divided between maritime and terrestrial domains. A specific current called upwelling runs through the waters, which is characterized by an upwelling of cold and nutrient-rich water masses from the depths of the ocean. These two components create the ideal conditions for the appearance and survival of an exceptional wealth of fish. The flora and fauna are also remarkable.
