Continuing more than 260 km north of Yangon, the town of Taungoo is a pleasant stopover between Bago and Thazi. Known to be the capital of teak, the elephant camp is located 50 km west of the city and allows travellers to observe the pachyderms at work and even climb on their backs to understand the driver's place on his small rustic seat and the relationship he has with his elephant at work. Fares remain high, as access to the camp is only possible by car; in addition, there is a fee for entry into the park, a small fee of about thirty euros, and the services of a guide who doubles the fee. But sensations guaranteed! Buses from Yangon-Mandalay or from Bago usually stop in Taungoo. Beware, some companies will ask you to pay the ticket to Mandalay. Compare several prices before you go.
