Travel Guide Beikthano

The archaeological site of Beikthano is an interesting visit from Pyay. To get there, it is better to be patient. The visit may be impracticable during the monsoon season. In any case, it is better to plan to charter a vehicle. For the more adventurous, a pick-up truck covers the Magwe-Taungdwingyi route daily, but be careful, it only makes the trip once a day, leaves once all the seats are occupied and drops you off in the open country! Most travellers on the Pyay to Bagan route stop off in Beikthano. The bare countryside from which emerge some foundations of a vanished civilization give a good foretaste of what awaits them in the Bagan plain. The site extends 19 km from Taungdwingyi, in the vicinity of Magwe, and is announced under the name of "Vishnu City". It is then necessary to follow a stony path for 1 km before discovering the ruins.
