In central Myanmar, Namhsan is a small town nestled on a mountain ridge. It has six main sections: Arem, Tondjo, Wemsai, Zuekain, Manmai and Tchtochu. It is a privileged point for trekking in mountainous landscapes of fresh and dazzling beauty. Since the arrival of tourists in 1996, it quickly took the nickname of "Switzerland of Myanmar". The activity of the village revolves around the main street adorned with pretty dark wooden houses. It is mainly inhabited by people from China. Palaung and Shan people live in the surrounding area. Most of the inhabitants live from tea cultivation, but also from poppy cultivation. Its tea leaf factories, harvested from April to August, feed the Mandalay market. Zayandji, a small village where to visit the Nats sanctuary, is a two-hour walk away, and the village of Arem is a weaving center in the pure tradition of the Palaung.
