The Mweru Wantipa National Park covers an area of 3,134 km² and is located on the shores of the lake of the same name. It is located between lakes Mweru and Tanganyika. It has a swampy area reminiscent of Bangweulu where birds are extremely numerous and varied. The park used to be famous for its large herds of elephants and its population of crocodiles that liked to nest between the papyrus. Unfortunately, the large animals have almost disappeared from the area, victims of commercial hunting and poaching, and only a few antelopes and small herds of buffalo are reported. The park remains pleasant because it is extremely wild. There are no facilities, but well-equipped adventurers can camp by the lake in total self-sufficiency.
