The name of Muang Ngoi was previously used to designate the current locality of Nong Khiaw, located one hour by canoe to the south... We eliminate the doubt by specifying Neua (north). Muang Ngoi Neua, therefore, is a picturesque village nestled in a meander of the Nam Ou, a tributary of the Mekong, framed by three steep peaks covered with lush vegetation : Pha Boum, Pha Pe and Pha Kao. A splendid natural setting that lends itself to relaxation. Many travellers stop here before heading up to Muang Khoua (or Muang Kua), or to Luang Prabang. The local population is made up of Lao people from the plains, including the Khamu and the Hmong.
