Located on the banks of the Mekong River, which marks the border with Thailand, a few kilometres from the Thai city of Nong Khai, Vientiane is a pleasant city to live in. The political and economic capital of Laos, it covers 3,920 km² and today has a population of around 850,000. Vientiane is a city on a human scale compared to its neighboring capitals, Bangkok and Hanoi. In fact, it looks more like a large provincial city and follows the path of modernization at its own pace. In the historic part of Vientiane, along the Mekong River, there are sites of interest such as temples, museums, monuments and parks. This cosmopolitan city, where many expatriates live, also has restaurants, bars, cafes and quality shops. Not forgetting accommodation of all categories. Although the city is growing and developing, it remains calm, clean and welcoming.
