Aden, with a population of 900 000, is the second largest city in Yemen, and has a recent past of Southern Yemen capital. Aden became the first port of Yemen with the establishment of a 31 000-hectare free zone. The status granted to the free zone allows international companies to settle there in peace of mind: they will never be seized or nationalized. Their goods, stored in the port to be reconsigned, do not pass through customs and commercial transactions are neither taxed nor taxed. The opening of the first tranche of the Free Zone took place in April 1999.
