This chapel of very sober Manueline style was built in 1522 by the men of Pedro de Castro, a Portuguese navigator on his way to India repulsed by the Swahilis of the Quirimbas. In the 17th century, a porch identical to those of the Portuguese churches in India was added. Located on the tip of the island, outside Fort São Sebastião, this chapel was frequented by the Portuguese on stopover during the long months of sea travel. It is one of the oldest in the country.
