Tofo bears the stigma of colonization. The "hole of the murdered" is a place of memory in its heights, on the way to Tofinho (it is signposted). From a cliff with sharp basalt rocks whipped by the foam, dozens of women and men were thrown into bags. The memorial recalls the existence of the terrible political police of the Portuguese colonists, the PIDE, which tortured and murdered opponents of colonial rule, supporters of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo) or simply suspected of being sympathetic.
