This abbey, founded by Archduchess Madeleine, was built by Giovanni Lucchese.
Founded by Archduchess Madeleine, sister of Archduke Ferdinand II, the Ladies' Abbey was occupied by the Archduchess from 1569, along with her sisters and other noble ladies. Built by Giovanni Lucchese, it was decorated with stuccowork in 1611 and 1691. Abolished in 1783, the Ladies' Abbey lost much of its rich heritage. Since 1912, the former Abbaye des Dames has regained its religious vocation, under the care of a community of Sacred Heart nuns.
