Founded in the 8th century by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria as a tribute to his son, who was killed while hunting, the abbey features a Baroque abbey church with fine sculptures, an original 18th-century mathematical tower converted into a small science museum, and fish ponds decorated with mythological statues. Housed in the abbey buildings, the museum displays the rare and famous Tassilo chalice. The gigantic library houses 250,000 books.
