BASILICA (BASILIKA)
Late Baroque basilica, Lower Austria's largest pilgrimage site, treasure room with gifts.
Easily visible from afar on its hill, the beautiful Baroque basilica of Maria Taferl is the largest pilgrimage site in Lower Austria. Built at the end of the 17th century, it was immediately the mother of angel processions, which were the basis of its pilgrimage tradition. In 1760 alone, there would have been 700 processions and 19,000 masses would have been said! The treasure room, which contains the many gifts of the pilgrims, is rich and interesting.
