HINTERHAUS CASTLE RUINS
Monumental ruins, including those of the defensive fortress of Hinterhaus, views of the Danube and a wealth of medieval history.
These monumental ruins dominate the landscape, overlooking the listed town of Spitz and the Danube, and are the remains of a typical fortified castle with its corner towers and notched round tower. The existence of this defensive fortress is mentioned as early as 1243. Popular with medieval history buffs, the site is best appreciated for its panoramic views. At the winter and summer solstices, the ruins are lit up with hundreds of torches by the association dedicated to its renovation.
