An easy path that leads to the volcanic site of Leirhnjukur where we find beautiful pots with a strange bubbling at the edge
An easy path leads to the volcanic site of Leirhnjúkur. At the edge of large pools with green water, there are beautiful pots with a strange bubbling sound and the colour and smell of sulphur. Right next to it, we enter a volcanic area still active. Several important fissural eruptions took place there, notably between 1977 and 1984. The last lava flows, still hot and smoldering, extend into the distance, covering an area of 36 km². It is advisable to stay on the marked paths because the lava is brittle and sharp.
