Very good quality hotel offering rooms, the most luxurious of which have private verandas and a whirlpool bath

Hotel Ranga is a luxury hotel in the south of the country. It's one of the few 4-star hotels in this part of Iceland - a distinction that's amply justified. The building, all in wood, is superb and warm. The rooms are divided between the main building and small individual chalets. Each is uniquely decorated, combining a chic winter chalet ambience with a mix of country and more contemporary furnishings. The most luxurious suites offer private verandas and even a private whirlpool bath. The décor is Scandinavian-inspired in the rooms, and the common areas are also very pleasant, decorated with local works of art carefully chosen by Friðrik Pálsson, the owner. An avid traveler and enthusiast, you're likely to come across him during your stay, and he'll be delighted to share his anecdotes and give you tips for excursions in the region. The Hotel Ranga offers a variety of themed packages, from gourmet experiences to romantic getaways, as well as a range of daytime activities. Thanks to powerful telescopes and a starry sky devoid of light pollution, the Ranga is also the ideal place to observe the famous northern lights. All in all, this is an excellent address, overlooking the river and the Hekla, with a top-quality gourmet restaurant and heated outdoor pool: everything you need for an unforgettable stay.

We came here for the restaurant dinner, and did not stay at the hotel. The meal was excellent, the salted cod and beef selections very good, including the appetizers. However, the service was kind of sketchy at times. We were seated for awhile before anyone came around and asked us for a beverage and ordered a meal. There were gaps at times, almost like they forgot about us. For the price that we are paying for the restaurant ratings, it needs to be stepped up a bit. We should not have to get up and ask for items for the table. Check out the Hotel Budir for an example of good service.

Amazing experience. It is very unassuming as you drive to the hotel but a very welcoming experience once you walk in. We had deluxe rooms with walkout patios and they were beautiful and decent sized with all the amenities. A decent bar to spend the evening and good food choice at the restaurant. The service is very friendly and courteous. Very highly recommend this place.

We are already missing this beautiful hotel. I was lucky to visit here courtesy of my beautiful daughter as a treat for my birthday. From the moment we arrived the service is impeccable. A complimentary bottle of wine delivered to our room shortly after check in. Your staff take great pride in the hotel, facilities and the general ambience of the hotel. Hot tubs are...hot. We enjoyed an amazing soak with our wine..bliss. The cocktails are lovely and because of how you mingle with other guests before you know it we are enjoying mutual appreciation if this special place. Dinner was as you would now expect from Hotel Ranga...delicious. We got an upgraded room and it didn't dissapoint. The bed and pillows cuddled us to sleep. The weather wasn't our friend so no star gazing but to our amazement we were treated to a small break in the clouds at 5am...and the Northern lights made an appearance. Whilst we can't thank Ranga for this they did make the setting amazing. Now for a reality check...yes it's expensive but go into this with a reality check...you most definitely get what you pay for...and we would gladly pay for it again, over and over. Thank you Hotel Ranga xx

This was the best hotel that we experienced anywhere in Iceland. It is wonderful. The staff are the best part, but the rooms, service, common areas, restaurant, free car charging, and amenities are all wonderful. We even got to see the northern lights thanks to their wake-up service for that. The internet is also very good.

I can't speak highly enough about this hotel. Absolutely wonderful. I said best hotel in Iceland, and that is by a long shot. It is one of the best that I've stayed in world-wide and I travel extensively.
