The extreme south of Slovakia is an area of crossbreeding and meeting of peoples. Long under Hungarian rule, the region still shows a strong influence in areas as vast as culinary specialities and architecture, which differ markedly from the rest of the country. This district also has one of the largest Hungarian communities in the country, so it is not surprising that most villages are listed in two languages. A natural park present on both sides of the borders, the landscapes are sublime and reveal very rugged high plateaus full of caves, a paradise for speleologists.
